Lessons Learned Serving in the British Armed Forces

In 1998, when I was just 16 years old, I left school without any noteworthy grades (or common sense, for that matter). It's funny how life takes unexpected turns, as I happened to stumble across the Army Careers Office while out shopping one day. Growing up, I was always an active individual, passionately involved in semi-professional football and long-distance running. So, when the Army presented me with an incredible opportunity to pursue my active lifestyle while traveling the world, how could I possibly refuse?

Injuries, I've lost count

Now, like many people who have embraced an active lifestyle, I've had my fair share of injuries. Whether it was torn ligaments in my knee, prolapsed discs in my neck, or ruptured hamstrings, I became relentless in my quest to learn how to prevent, recover, and manage these injuries. That's when I made the decision to specialise in the rehabilitation of injured service personnel, realising that it would not only benefit me but also provide exceptional value to the service.

Beginning the Rehabilitation Journey

I wasted no time in becoming a physical training instructor, with the responsibility of shaping resilient individuals who were less prone to injuries and ready to face any challenges that came their way.

At the start of my rehabilitation career, I dedicated several years to gaining valuable experience in managing acute injuries, ranging from shin splints and anterior knee pain to ITB syndrome, stress fractures, and dislocations. Typically, these patients would undergo coaching and programs from me for about 3-4 months before successfully resuming their normal activities.

Seeking a fresh challenge, I later transitioned into the realm of chronic rehabilitation, working with patients who struggled with long-term injuries such as lower back pain, plantar fascia issues, chronic shoulder instability, and knee injuries. During this time, I had the privilege of working alongside some of the industry's finest physiotherapists, eagerly absorbing every bit of knowledge and expertise they had to offer.

The experience I gained in assessing, educating, and developing tailor-made rehabilitation programs for a wide range of injuries was truly unparalleled. Even to this day, I firmly believe that no one in the industry can match the depth of my expertise.

Additionally, I've had the incredible opportunity to refine my skills in Strength & Conditioning and Rehabilitation as the Head of Performance for a Unit comprising over 700 personnel. Leading a highly skilled team of 21 Physical Training Instructors, we ensured that all our personnel were in peak physical and mental condition to excel in their respective roles.

Education

"Never stop learning because life never stops teaching"

Throughout the years, I've invested a significant amount of time and resources in expanding my knowledge, skills, and attitude. This relentless pursuit of growth and excellence has undoubtedly positioned me as the best in the business. Not only do I possess vocational competence, but I've also been fortunate enough to apply and refine my skills by delivering rehabilitation and physical training to highly motivated soldiers.

By the way, you might not be aware, but I hold a 1st Class Honours Degree in Strength & Conditioning, complemented by my expertise as an Exercise Rehabilitation Specialist. In a previous phase of my life, I even completed a Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage.

However, my true talent lies in my ability to comprehend your unique needs and deliver precisely what you desire through intelligent and progressive programming.

Sport

I thrive when working in high performance teams and relish the opportunity to maximise the potential of athletes. For over a decade, I've had the privilege of being involved in football at an international level, serving as Performance Lead and Head of Medical for both the British Army and the United Kingdom Armed Forces Football Team. I've also provided my services to the English Football League (EFL) and the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) on various high-profile events.
